Gaining Control in a Fragmented Tech Landscape

How Epassi gained control of a growing application landscape across Europe

Client: Epassi, a leading European tech company in the employee benefits sector
Challenge: A fragmented application landscape following rapid growth across Europe
Our role: Introducing a shared Enterprise Architecture tool, mapping the application portfolio, and planning the path to consolidation

When growth outpaces structure

Rapid growth is a good problem to have, but it is still a problem. Over the past few years, Epassi has expanded into several European countries, building real momentum in the employee benefits market. With each new country came new applications, new processes, and new technologies.

Add it all up, and a familiar pattern emerged: duplicated systems, inconsistent data, climbing operational costs, and limited visibility into what was actually running where. Epassi recognised the opportunity to step back and create one shared, trustworthy view of their application portfolio, covering usage, ownership, costs, and business purpose.

That is where we came in. Epassi engaged Arribatec to bring structure, transparency, and control to the landscape, and our consultant Gina Bøen Nordal led the work.

Our approach

In close collaboration with key stakeholders across business units and locations, the following activities were carried out:

  • Mapping of the application portfolio across the organization
  • Implementation of an enterprise architecture tool as a centralized repository for applications, technologies, and related information
  • Identification of overlaps, redundancies, and consolidation opportunities
  • Assessment of applications based on business value, technical alignment, and cost implications
  • Establishment of a structured foundation for application rationalization and governance

Results

The initiative resulted in a unified overview of the application landscape, enabling:

  • Identification of cost reduction opportunities
  • Improved collaboration and standardization across the organizational units and geographical locations
  • Initiation of consolidation initiatives
  • More informed and data-driven decision-making

Positioned for Scale

As a result, the organization is better positioned to streamline operations, reduce IT-related costs, and support scalable growth.

Why it matters

This engagement illustrates the value of establishing transparency and governance in complex environments and how a structured approach to enterprise architecture can improve efficiency and business outcomes.
